About

My name is Angela Dobrzynski. I’m a professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania and am passionate for all things personal development and human behavior. I work with adults individually, and I have an orientation toward health and stress psychology, spiritual integration, emotional resilience and utilizing strengths as the basis of personal development. My specialties include grief (including non-death losses), leaving abusive relationships, recovery from eating disorders or substance abuse and healing Adult Children of Alcoholics. I am trained in EMDR, an evidence-based intervention used to reduce symptoms of trauma and limiting beliefs. I also work with a lot of parents, struggling with the demands of parenthood.

My Master’s degree is in Counseling Psychology from Rosemont College and my Bachelor’s degree is in Psychology from Stockton University.

Experience

Prior to private practice, I worked as a Bereavement Counselor for Main Line Health Homecare and Hospice. I spent twelve years working at Women’s Resource Center, where I provided solutions-focused counseling to clients facing significant life transitions and facilitated the Girls Lead Program for middle school aged girls. Prior to that I worked for six years at The Renfrew Center, a residential treatment facility for adult and adolescent eating disorder patients. I was adjunct faculty at Manor College teaching Developmental Psychology and a course I created on Stress and Health Psychology.  I have worked in all levels of education, including high school counseling in a public school district and the therapeutic nursery at Children’s Crisis Treatment Center. I am a member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology.

Approach

My approach to counseling starts with our relationship. I seek to understand you from a holistic and lifespan perspective. This includes respect for and consideration of your religious and spiritual beliefs. Given this understanding, I will share my observations with you, allowing you to connect the dots of your relevant life experience. From there we develop your primary goals for counseling and begin interventions to reach those goals. When appropriate, I will provide tools, skills and resources to support you.

Session Format

Teletherapy sessions are held via HIPAA-compliant Zoom, and typically last 50 minutes. I offer in-person office sessions in Downingtown, PA. Walk-and-Talk Sessions are also available. See the Counseling Section of the Services Page for more information.

Fees

Rate per session is $165, payable by credit card, HSA/FSA card or cash (for in-person clients only). I do not accept any health insurance. All other fees are outlined in their respective sections on the Services Page.

Scheduling

If you are interested in scheduling or would like schedule a brief phone call to see if I would be a fit for you, please submit your information via the Contact Page. Best wishes!

A Personal Note

For some people, it is important to know a little personal information about a prospective counselor, so I will share a few tidbits:

  • I stopped using social media after reading “Stolen Focus,” “The Extinction of Experience,” and “The Anxious Generation.”
  • I am married and we have two teen sons and a toddler daughter. We also have two cats and a corgi who has acquired about thirty different nicknames :-).
  • I co-lead a youth group for 8th grade girls at our church.
  • I love being outside, and you might catch me hiking or kayaking locally in the nice weather!
